Stocks are common stock in % of each fund’s net assets on its latest N-PORT, counted through the funds it holds where ETFIQ reads them. Bonds are real bonds only, dated debt maturing more than 397 days after the report date, as the Allocation rule counts them. Cash and other is the rest: cash, bills and short debt, preferred shares and commodities. Not measured is a fund with no published stock share, bonds not yet read and held funds not read through. Each times its weight.

How the model is computed

Your weights are applied to each fund’s monthly total return and reset at every month end, the ETFIQ benchmarks’ monthly rule, so a month’s return is the weighted sum of the funds’ returns that month. Fund fees are inside each return; nothing else is deducted. Total returns are market price with distributions reinvested, net of each fund’s own fees, with nothing else deducted. The price source does not carry funds that closed before 2016, so nothing here is free of survivorship bias. Built from the funds and weights you chose. Not investment advice: ETFIQ does not know your circumstances and recommends no portfolio. The benchmarks’ method →

Questions people ask about the model builder

What does the model builder compute?
For the ETFs and weights you choose: the share in stocks, real bonds and cash, looked through to each fund’s filing; the weighted expense ratio; the largest holdings and the overlap between the funds; and total returns over the year to date, 1, 3 and 5 years, beside the ETFIQ benchmark for the model’s stock share.
Why are the returns hypothetical?
They apply today’s weights to past prices, reset at every month end, the monthly rule the ETFIQ benchmarks use. Nobody held this model over those years, so every return is marked hypothetical.
Which benchmark is a model set beside?
ETFIQ Strategic at the point of the allocation band the model’s stock share falls in: more than 15% and up to 30% stocks is Strategic 20, then 40, 60, 80 and 95. Every fund needs a published stock share for the band to be measured.
Is this investment advice?
No. The model is the funds and weights you chose; ETFIQ applies them to published data and recommends no portfolio. It does not know your circumstances.
