Do crypto ETFs pay staking rewards?

Only the ones holding a proof of stake coin can, which is why no bitcoin fund ever will. Of the 55 spot crypto ETFs ETFIQ covers, 26 hold a coin that can be staked at all, 21 say in their own filings that they stake it, and 17 of those finished ahead of the price of the coin they hold, which is what staking looks like from outside the fund.

ETFIQ does not take a sponsor’s word for it. A fund charging a fee cannot finish ahead of the price of the thing it holds unless it earned something else on the way, and on these chains there is one thing to earn. So the site prints three answers that can disagree: what the chain allows, what the trust’s filings say, and what the prices did. Where they disagree the page says so. Today they do not: every fund measurably ahead of its coin also says in its filings that it stakes.

Staking exists on a proof of stake chain, where holders lock coin to secure the network and are paid for it. Bitcoin is proof of work: there is nothing to stake, there never will be, and asking what a bitcoin ETF’s staking yield is is like asking what a bond fund’s dividend growth rate is.

Where a fund does hold a stakeable coin, three things decide what reaches a holder: whether the fund stakes at all, what share of the reward the sponsor keeps, and what the network is paying, which moves. Those are terms in the trust’s own filings rather than a market figure, so they are read from the filings and dated, and this site does not publish a staking yield it cannot point at a document for.

A staked fund is also not the same thing as staking the coin yourself. The fund holds it through a custodian and the shares stay liquid; doing it directly means custody and, on some chains, a lock-up. The yields are comparable and the arrangements are not.
