figures Shares outstanding and net asset value per share for each fund, with the date the issuer puts on each, read every trading night; four houses’ own history files back to Oct 1, 2019 Every trading night ·
SEC Form N-PORT, item B.6 Each month’s sales, reinvestments and redemptions as filed Quarterly data sets document
SEC Form N-CEN, item E.3.a Each fund’s creation unit, the block its shares are created and redeemed in Each annual filing document
Tiingo end-of-day prices Split factors, to tell a split from a flow Every trading night ·

Definitions and method
Every flow here is ETFIQ’s calculation. No issuer publishes one.
Daily net flow (ETFIQ) The change in shares outstanding from one count to the next, times the net asset value per share of the earlier count, dated to the day of the later one. Shares counted on a day were created or redeemed at the previous day’s value, so that is the price the money moved at. Against SPY ’s own N-PORT filings for April to June 2026 this reproduces its monthly net flows to the cent. Net flow over a window (ETFIQ) The sum of the daily net flows on the trading days the window covers: money in less money out. A day with a count and no flow, because there is no earlier count to compare it with, is shown and counted out, and the days a figure counts are printed beside it whenever they are fewer than the window’s. Monthly net flow (ETFIQ) From Form N-PORT item B.6: the month’s sales plus reinvestments less redemptions, as the fund filed them. A month after the latest filing is the sum of its days, with the days it holds. Vanguard sells its ETFs as one share class of funds that also have mutual fund shares, and its filings cover all share classes of the fund, not the ETF alone. Splits (ETFIQ) On a day the price feed confirms a split, the earlier count is carried through the split and only the shares left over are a flow, valued at the earlier net asset value divided by the split’s factor. Round trips (ETFIQ) A creation of at least 5% of a fund’s net assets the day before, and of at least $100 million, redeemed within five trading days, the redemption returning between 80% and 125% of the shares created, both in whole creation units of their day. These are the trades around an index rebalance, such as XLK ’s of June 17 and June 22, 2026. Both days stay in every total and both are marked wherever they are counted; the hub ranks funds leaving them aside, because money that came in and went straight back out says little about what investors wanted. A fund whose creation unit is not known is never labelled. Coverage (ETFIQ) A fund has daily figures, monthly figures only, or none. A total over a category or an issuer sums the funds with daily figures in the window, and is printed beside how many of the group’s funds have every day of it and their share of its assets. Window conventions
Windows are 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, year to date and 1 year. Each ends on the latest day with figures: 1 week is the last five trading days, 1 month and 3 months the trading days since the same date one and three months earlier, year to date since the first trading day of the year, and 1 year since the same date a year earlier. Tonight they end on Oct 2, 2026.
What is checked every night
Every share count is checked before it is kept. A count dated a weekend or a day after today is refused. Where a house states net assets as well, the count times the net asset value must come within a quarter of a per cent of them. A count that moved by part of a creation unit is refused, measured in the unit the fund filed for that date. A count whose date moved while every figure stayed the same is refused as frozen. Each refusal is kept with its reason, and a flow is only computed between two counts that were both kept. The published files hold no share count, net asset value or net assets figure; a night whose files would hold one publishes none, and so does a night with a flow other than zero dated on a day markets were closed.
What this cannot tell you
Who bought or sold. Shares are created and redeemed by a fund’s authorized participants, the dealers who trade with it directly, for their clients or their own book; a flow is their net, not any one investor’s.
Whether the money stays. A creation counted this week can be undone next week, and one in the last few days may yet be a round trip.
The day-to-day flows of a fund with monthly figures only. Its latest month is the latest the SEC has published, usually two months or more behind.
A return. A fund can take in money while its price falls, and lose money while its price rises.
Flows of funds ETFIQ does not cover, or of the market as a whole.
Whether money is counted only once. Some funds hold other ETFs, such as an allocation fund holding stock and bond ETFs: money into one of them can be counted again in the ETFs it buys, so a total over a category or an issuer can count it twice. These totals do not yet take that out.
How to check any of this
Every published figure is available as JSON at a stable address on the open data page . Figures ETFIQ computes are free to use with attribution and the as-of date; issuer data stays under its owner's terms. Every number is recomputed nightly from the raw sources by independent code and the result is published on the statistics page . Where ETFIQ has published a figure that turned out to be wrong, it is recorded on the corrections page rather than quietly changed.
ETFIQ is an independent publisher of exchange-traded fund data. It is not a fund issuer, broker-dealer or investment adviser, takes no payment from issuers, and makes no recommendations. A figure marked ETFIQ is one ETFIQ computed; every other figure is the issuer’s or the exchange’s, and is labeled as such on the page it appears on.
